FREEPORT, The Bahamas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 3, 2002

On February 22, 1917, Jack Manson drove Raven III, a 51-foot Purdy with twin 400 horsepower Speedway engines, the 50 miles from Miami to Gun Cay in the Bahamas to win the first Bahamas offshore race. The boat, owned by Carl Fisher, owner and founder of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, took two hours and 35 minutes to finish the race, and averaged 19.4 miles per hour.
