As the 1970s drew to a close, Douglas Adams's "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" first appeared on BBC radio. "Hitchhiker's Guide" was (and continues to be) wildly successful--the series was adapted into a four-book "trilogy" and a hit TV show. "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" featured a wonderful mix of Monty Python--like humor, science fiction, and science fact.
