Some opinions require lots of words and elaboration. Some don't. This is Saturday Soapbox, briefly stated commentary from the Daily Herald's editors.

The good one man can do:

Imagine the good one person can do if he volunteers his time. Now multiply by 10,000 a year. That's the good Richard Reed did during his 15 years as executive director of the Volunteer Center of Northwest Suburban Chicago. In his tenure, Reed put together an ever-expanding army of volunteers that benefits the community in so many ways. Although he retired this week, the spirit of volunteerism remains. What a wonderful legacy to leave.
