BEIJING -- FTSE/Xinhua Index (FXI), the China index provider, held a workshop today on exchange-traded funds (ETFs) together with the China Center for Financial Research, Tsinghua University. Representatives of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, securities firms, fund houses, insurance companies, etc., attended the event, held at the university.

Ms. Fredy Bush, FXI Chairman, told attendees she was delighted at the strong interest shown in the workshop. "The response demonstrates the keen demand for ETFs," Ms. Bush said. "To facilitate the development of the Chinese securities market, we are now working together with the China Center for Financial Research of Tsinghua University on feasibility studies on launching ETFs in the local market."
