Hoffmann-La Roche Inc., working closely with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), distributed an enhanced version of their Pregnancy Prevention Program for Women on Accutane[R] (PPP) to more than 375,000 dermatologists, primary care prescribers, and pharmacists in the United States. The program is called S.M.A.R.T[TM], for System to Manage Accutane[R] Related Teratogenicity[TM]. Accutane[R] (isotretinoin) is a highly effective treatment for severe recalcitrant nodular (cystic) acne, but is teratogenic.
