Alice Nelson

SPRINGFIELD - The funeral will be held April 2 for Alice M. Nelson of Springfield, who died March 27 of complications following a stroke. She was 83.

Nelson was born Jan. 30, 1921, in Providence, R.I., to Fred and Violet Ball Ormsbee.

She was a homemaker and she worked at the Village Inn in Springfield from 1974 until 1978. She lived in this area for most of her life and was a member of the Springfield Lutheran Church.

She was an avid reader and she also enjoyed needlepoint and crocheting.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Weleber of Springfield; a stepdaughter, Ginger Wright of Prineville; three brothers, Harold Ormsbee and Elmer Brycevilli, both of Florida and Ralph Ormsbee of Eustis, Fla.; three sisters, Violet Parks of Los Angeles, Lena Junier of Pinole, Calif., and Mathilda Wood of Georgia; and two grandchildren.

Friday's service will be held at 11 a.m. at the Springfield Lutheran Church. Lane Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Springfield Lutheran Church.

Marlys Lay

Marlys M. "Molle" Lay of Eugene died March 27 of age-related causes. She was 83.

Lay was born Oct. 15, 1920, in Hastings, Neb., to D. Carl and Edith Buschow Lay.

Her family moved to Eugene from Hastings in 1935. She graduated from University High School in Eugene and attended Emmanuel School of Nursing in Portland.

She served in the Navy as a pharmacist's mate 3rd class at Treasure Island during World War II and as a hospital corpsman 1st class during the Korean War.

She returned to Eugene and worked as a nurse in Dr. Finlay's office for 25 years. She enjoyed her job and her patients, especially the children.

She also enjoyed traveling, camping, mountain climbing and reading. She especially enjoyed the Oregon Coast and spending time with her six nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. She will be remembered for her giving heart....
