The e-mail's title - "End of an Era" - and the ex-colleague it was from suggested what was inside the message: The newspaper I used to work for in Bellevue, Wash., is selling its headquarters, moving part of a scaled-down staff to Kent and renting office space for the few reporters who remain.

It's part of a trend in my life: Buildings that once meant something to me are either being knocked down or have, or will, become homes for something else. Someone else.
