Food and beverage tax makes sense

Naperville's city council is considering a proposal for a 1 percent tax on food and beverages at restaurants, including fast- food places. If approved in April, the tax would go into effect in July and generate about $1.35 million annually to support cultural and charitable activities in town.

Those activities include some of the most visited landmarks and events - the DuPage Children's Museum, the Naperville Municipal Band and fund-raising festivals such as Last Fling....
