Because of inclement weather and spring break, it took longer than usual for the Barrington softball team to play its first game this season.

But there was nothing unusual about the result.

The Fillies, who have won 96 of their last 109 games, started the 2004 campaign with an 8-2 triumph over Larkin on Tuesday at the Fields of Dreams in Barrington.

It was the Fillies' 12th straight win in a season opener under coach Perry Peterson.

"For the past four weeks, we've been waiting to play," said senior pitcher Abby Reed, who now has 51 of the Fillies' wins the last four seasons against only 8 losses. "At school all day, we were like 'Oh gosh, I hope it doesn't rain.' It was great to play."

The Fillies' play on offense was sharp at the start. After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, they bounced back with 7 runs in the bottom half of the inning.
