Besides providing sustenance, cooking also brings me happiness. Before I ever began writing about food, I'd come home from a long workday and blow off steam by cooking.

I still cook just for fun; trying recipes where I don't care about the calories, fat or carbs and focusing only on how good it looks and tastes.

This story tells about just such a dish.

Five years ago, chef Mark Strausman released his cookbook "The Campagna Table," named for his justifiably famous New York restaurant. At that time, I zeroed in on Strausman's recipe for Pasta with Red Wine Beef Sauce, thanks to a color picture that made my mouth water. I didn't make it at the time, however, but promised myself I would do so soon.

Five years later, I read Christopher Kimball's "Kitchen Detective" and the recipe for Four-Star Meaty Tomato Sauce reminded me of Strausman's recipe and my promise.
