PROJECT OVERVIEW:

A Pakistani joint venture in the making recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) regarding the implementation of the Machike Taru Jabba pipeline project. The partners in the potential undertaking include PAKISTAN STATE OIL (PSO) and ATTOK REFINERY (ARL).

According to the terms of the MOU, the tentative partners are planning to build a 470 km long petroleum supply pipeline from Machike, Sheikhupura, and Lahore to Tarru Jabba near Peshawar. The new line is intended to enable completing the missing section of the cross country pipeline network as well as create a strategic backbone between 2 major cities with feeder offshoots to all of the country's main supply areas for petroleum products.

In so doing, the project will further augment the safe and environment friendly means of petroleum transportation in the north of the country besides reducing road congestion and product losses through substantial reduction of inter-city movement of oil products through roads.
