The American Legacy Foundation (ALF), creators of the award-winning "truth" ad campaign, wants to prevent Big Tobacco from suing the foundation for ad content, an ALF lawyer said.

The Washington D.C.-based foundation filed a pre-emptive lawsuit in Delaware, where it's incorporated, earlier this year after receiving formal lawsuit threats from the Lorillard Tobacco Company.

Its "truth" ads, which are aimed at curbing youth smoking, use in-your-face techniques such as filming teenagers piling body bags outside a tobacco company's warehouse or teen-agers sticking placards in dog dung to get its message across.
