Some children dream 01 piloting planes, walking on the moon or performing delicate brain surgeries. Then there's Eric Crowell, the Iowa Health System president and chief executive, who as a young teen decided, that he wanted to be a hospital administrator.

The Eagle Scout got his first inside view of health care nearly three decades ago when the then-middle schooler joined an Explorer post, an offshoot of the Boy Scouts of America program, that met at Iowa Lutheran Hospital.

At the facility; Crowell, like his peers, studied the doctors, nurses and support staff who hurried around the hospital And like most, kids, he quickly picked out his favorite job.
