To the editor: If the village board of Arlington Heights condemns, takes over, and eliminates International Plaza at Golf and Arlington Heights roads, it would be an outrageous act, completely ignoring the original intent of the law that allows TIF districts.

International Plaza is not a "blighted" area. It is a fully occupied shopping center with dozens of family businesses doing quite well. If it is torn down what will take its place? How many mega-bookstores and coffee shops does the village need?

I certainly hope the board does not ignore its responsibility to serve all citizens. It should not use the TIF law to attempt to further enrich the village coffers with more taxes. I urge concerned citizens to...
