Todd Leyden's reason for leaving besieged Arthur Andersen LLP to launch a business outsourcing practice runs much deeper than the accounting firm's struggles to stay afloat.

Leyden's 13-year-old son died in February 2001 after a staph infection reached his heart and spread throughout his body.

Later in the year, Leyden, a firm principal and former lead consultant of the Mayor's High Technology Task Force, rethought his career and began plotting his departure. He said he had decided to leave before the federal government indicted Andersen on obstruction of justice charges related to document shredding at Houston-based Enron Corp.
