NEW YORK -- Tribeca Film Festival co-founders Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal announced today the film line-up for Films in Competition at the first annual Tribeca Film Festival presented by American Express, this May 8 - May 12, 2002 in New York City.

The Festival also announced the kick-off of "American Express Presents The People's Choice Best of New York Film." The Best of New York film competition is an online vote for the public's favorite movie that celebrates New York City. The top vote-getting film will be screened at the Tribeca Film Festival on Thursday, May 9th. The public can vote online at http://www.tribecafilmfestival.org/ beginning April 5th.

The five-day festival celebrates the spirit of New York City and the international independent film community at home and abroad. There are 55 Feature, Documentary and Short films in competition, including 11 World Premieres, 5 U.S. Premieres and 11 New York Premieres. More than 13,000 films from around the world were submitted for consideration in the Festival's inaugural year.

In addition to Films in Competition, the Festival film slate will include: The Tribeca Film Festival International Film Showcase (curated by Eamonn Bowles), Martin Scorsese and The Film Foundation Present The Restored Classic Series, Best of New York Film series (curated by Martin Scorsese), as well as a selection of films that commemorate the tragic events of September 11th.
