Fast-growing sales drove auto supplier Brose North America Inc. to drop plans to build a new headquarters building in Auburn Hills and instead retrofit purchased space.

A spike in new orders meant the company didn't have time to wait for a headquarters to be built from scratch. So three weeks ago, it purchased a half-finished speculative building in Auburn Hills from Bingham Farms-based Burton-Katzman Development Co.
