Dearborn-based Auto Club Group, which announced plans to lay off 550 employees last week, including 218 in Michigan, also unveiled plans in Omaha, Neb., to open a new call center that will employ 450.

Auto Club Group, parent company of AAA Michigan Inc. and five other membership clubs including AAA Nebraska, already has a call center in Omaha that employs about 75.

Auto Club Group doesn't plan to close call centers in Dearborn and Grand Rapids, said Public-Relations Manager Nancy Cain.

The organization has begun eliminating the 218 Michigan jobs from its human-resources, finance, legal, public-affairs, and marketing departments. Those cuts are the result of a review designed to cut costs and processes that are also done at other locations.
