PROJECT OVERVIEW:

An international consortium was recently established in view of building Mexico's first large-scale wind farm. The proposed project, to be sited on the Teheuantec isthmus in Oaxaca state, is expected to have a total installed generating capacity of 6,000 Mw. The partners in the planned undertaking include Germany-based FUHRLANDER, ENDESA, GAMESA ENERGIA, IBERDROLA and FUERZA EOLICA of Spain DEWIND and ABB OY of Finland, a subsidiary of the ABB GROUP of Sweden.

According to the terms of the agreement, the partnership will raise $5,000,000,000 in order to finance the project. In so doing, the electricity output is expected to be sold to the state-owned COMMISION FEDERAL DE ELECTRICIDAD (CFE) that is involved in the generation and distribution of electricity.

As things currently stand, the group is already involved in negotiations with landowners regarding land rights in connection with the installation of the wind turbines.

IBERDROLA employs a total staff of about 11,000. The company is involved in the production, transmission, switching and distribution of electricity. This is achieved through hydroelectric, conventional thermal and nuclear power generation.

ENDESA is engaged in the generation, transmission and marketing of electricity in Europe and Latin America. The company operates through 6 divisions: generation, distribution, energy, diversification, international and services.

FUHRLAENDER is active in the production and development of wind farms worldwide.

GAMESA operates in the aeronautic, industrial, energy, wind power and services fields.
