Rubber machinery suppliers are having a lean time right now. Russia and China remain healthy, but orders in the US and in parts of Western Europe are hard to come by, and have been for the last six months or more, according to machinery suppliers.

Out of 156 companies listed in our survey, over half (80) responded to our questions again this year, and of those, the highest fraction (29) said West Europe was showing growth. Next, perhaps surprisingly, was North America, though half the companies who said that region was showing strong growth were themselves American-based companies, while most of the rest were European.

Five companies said emphatically that no region was showing growth at present, which contrasts strongly with none saying the same thing a year ago. After the US the machinery makers said the next fastest-growing region was China, followed closely by central Europe.
