The mother of a 30-year-old Indonesian man arrested last month in Manila on suspicion of being part of a group linked to the al-Qaida terrorist network says she will believe in his innocence until a fair trial proves his guilt.

The labeling of Fathur Rohman Al-Ghozi as a terrorist is deeply troubling considering the lack of strong evidence to support the allegations, said his mother Rukanah.

''How come people have already made the verdict my son is a terrorist, while everything is still sketchy,'' she told Kyodo News at her residence recently.

''I hope God gives him the protection, patience and safety in facing this trying situation,'' she said.
