Four years ago it was the flap over free contraceptives for school-aged girls that drove the incumbents out of office.

Two years ago, it was the nagging deficits plaguing McHenry County that did some board members in during election season.

This year, however, things were different. There wasn't one overriding issue that decided whether incumbents seeking re- election to the county board in the Republican primary won or lost their seats.
