Nancy Lunn took one look at the recent campaign ads and quickly realized she wanted nothing to do with these politicians.

So Lunn of Algonquin sat out Tuesday's elections, partly because Illinois makes voters declare which political party they plan to vote for, but mostly because of the nonstop barrage of negative campaigning that left Lunn unconvinced anyone deserved her vote.

Democrats Lisa Madigan and John Schmidt were exchanging barbs in the race for attorney general. And both the Republican and Democratic governor contests were packed with attack ads, some of which rank among the most venomous ever to air in Illinois.
