Article Excerpt With the economy trying to maintain a steady growth rate here in North County we notice several issues that WET our appetites with concern.
Water, energy, and transportation issues immediately come to mind. These are not new issues--but as growth continues and infrastructure lags, they are increasingly becoming a hassle for our residents.
Water is probably the one item that is most taken for granted. You rarely hear anyone screaming at their sink about the slowness of the flow, but water is the No. 1 concern for planners and economic development officials. The newest wrinkle in the water world is desalination. With the vast Pacific Ocean tantalizingly visible all day, most of us have said "the reservoir is there--just do something about the salt!"
Until just recently it was too expensive to consider. With our population growing by 40,000 or 50,000 annually, however, its time has come for further consideration.
