The U.S. Department of Labor announced its new overtime regulations for white-collar workers in late April and, on Aug. 23, those rules went into effect, impacting companies across the nation.

But for California companies, the new regulations will have little effect, experts say.

"For California companies that employ California employees, it really doesn't mean a lot," said Jeremy Roth, managing shareholder of San Diego-based law firm Littler Mendelson, practicing exclusively in employment and labor law. "The reality for most California employers is that it really doesn't make many changes at all."
