PROJECT OVERVIEW:

Germany-based GM OPEL ASTRA, a subsidiary of GENERAL MOTORS CORP. (GM) of the US, is currently scheduled to begin the mass production of vehicles in the Ukraine by 2004. As a result, LEONI BORDNETZ-SYSTEME GMBH & CO. KG, a subsidiary of LEONI AG of Germany, recently decided to set-up shop in the country to manufacture wiring cable in order to supply OPEL. In so doing, the company initially intends to rent premises to operate a pilot plant until mid-2002.

However, the company's longer term plans call for building its own factory. The new facility, to be sited at Stryj adjacent Lviv in western Ukraine, is expected to require an investment of about $40,000,000 to build. And, operational start-up is scheduled for some time around mid-2003 while full production is slate for the year 2004. Daily...
