With only about a month before the Republican governor's primary, Lt. Gov. Corinne Wood Friday tried to bolster her flagging campaign, bringing in a new consultant and attempting to reconnect with a running mate who said Friday he'd be willing to take help from her two opponents.

To connect with moderate voters, Wood hired Don Rose, an independent political consultant known for helping Jane Byrne pull off the upset for Chicago mayor in 1979.
