A jury deliberated 20 minutes Wednesday before convicting a Eugene man in the near-fatal stabbing of a 46-year-old woman during a purse-snatching outside a Springfield bar last October.

The five-woman, seven-man jury acquitted Marcus Angelo Lewallen on the most serious charge, attempted aggravated murder, but convicted him on first-degree assault and two counts of first-degree robbery.

Lewallen, 20, will be sentenced today in the courtroom of Lane County Circuit Judge Eveleen Henry.

The charges carry mandatory Measure 11 prison terms, but prosecutors may seek a harsher sentence...
