Eugene voters, get ready. During the next two weeks, key officials will decide what you're likely to find on the ballot come May.

Mayor Jim Torrey said he'll finally settle on whether he'll vie with state Rep. Vicki Walker for an open state Senate seat.

City Councilor Pat Farr will choose whether to answer the state Republican Party's siren call and challenge state Rep. Bob Ackerman for a House seat.

And the Eugene City Council will likely determine the best way to approach voters for bonds to build one or two new fire halls and/or raise money to pay for library services for the next four years.

With all these questions hanging in the balance, and with behind-the-scenes speculation rife, tensions this week are exceeding the high-water mark, even for hyper-political Eugene.

"Something has got to happen at some point," Farr said in an interview. `There's a lot of `what ifs' right now.'

If Torrey runs for the Legislature, he's already decided he won't leave the mayor's office until after the November election.
