Bill Gordon is a native of Rome, Ga.--and still has a soft southern accent to prove it--and received his bachelor's a master's degrees from Wake Forest University and his doctorate in experimental psychology from Rutgers University. At the State University of New York in Binghamton and at UNM, his academic research focuses on learning and memory.
His official biography notes that "Dr. Gordon has led a comprehensive strategic planning process for UNM and has worked to emphasize the important role played by the University in the economic development of the state of New Mexico. He hopes to lead the University to development of a truly unique undergraduate educational experience, to fulfill its responsibilities to the community and the state of New Mexico, and to capitalize on the natural advantages UNM has, such as unique populations, geographic location, and established academic programs. He believes strongly that the innovative spirit of UNM's faculty, staff, and students will successfully guide UNM to continue along the path of distinction".
