The game was close, so Naperville Central had every reason to be nervous.

But the Redhawks weren't, and that made the difference.

Naperville Central scored a 64-61 DuPage Valley victory Friday at Wheaton Warrenville South, avenging a double-overtime loss to the Tigers earlier in the season.

Close games have not been kind to the Redhawks (12-10, 7-3). They came into Friday's action with a 1-6 record in games decided by 4 points or less.

"We barely won, and it was scary," said Redhawks senior guard Adam Teising (15 points). "But just winning a close game like that is huge. You can't get used to losing close games."

WW South's Alex Freer (17 points) hit consecutive shots, the second a 3-pointer, as the Tigers (11-10, 5-5) took a 51-48 lead with five minutes, 27 seconds left in the game.

The lead swayed before the Redhawks' Dave Johnson (10 points) made a free throw and a basket to put his team on top to stay at 55-53.
