PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The local ADEN REFINERY CO. has been in operation since 1954. Although the plant reached a production plateau of 170,000 barrels per day (b/d) in the 1970s it currently operates at a rate of only 100,000 b/d. As a result, the government is now attempting to revive upgrade plans that were first considered in 1996.

In so doing, the government is now reportedly proposing to invest $250,000,000 in order to implement a modernization program. The development scheme is said to involve: - Debottlenecking work on the crude distillation and gasoline

units; - The construction of a hydrocracker; - Building a new power station; - The installation of a computerized control system.
