The planned undertaking is intended to enable connecting the Kola nuclear power plant in northwestern Russia with Finland's Pirttikoski transfer station. If this project goes ahead as envisioned it is expected to cost about $109,000,000 to install. However, it is still not clear whether the electricity transferred by such a grid facility would be nuclear or hydroelectric.

In addition, RWE is reportedly interested in investing in a project for the restoration of nuclear fuel rods in Russia from Bulgaria's Kosloduy nuclear power plant.
