LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa. -- Japan Metals and Chemicals Company, Ltd. (JMC) and Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. announced today that they have recently signed an agreement to pursue a joint development program pertaining to hydrogen storage systems that utilize metal hydride alloys for fuel cell markets. This is an important step to facilitate development of a viable hydrogen infrastructure for the emerging hydrogen based economy.

A metal hydride is a metal alloy system that is capable of absorbing and storing hydrogen at moderate pressures near room temperature. This stored hydrogen may be released as required to provide power for a wide variety of fuel cell applications.
