NEW YORK -- Silver prices on the New York Mercantile Exchange declined 5.55 cents Tuesday, hitting a new one-month low, largely on fund liquidation, according to market sources.

Nymex's March silver contract closed at $4.288 an ounce Tuesday, off from Friday's close of $4.345 an ounce.
