In the high-tech, cyberspace economy of the 21st century, an ordinary cash drawer may seem a little out of date. Indiana Cash Drawer Co., however, has prospered for 80 years by keeping the cash drawer relevant to the times.

"We're still the most recognizable cash drawer brand in retail," said Robert Benavides, the Shelbyville-based company's vice president.

The privately owned company now has 120 employees between its headquarters and warehouse/distribution center in Shelbyville and its manufacturing plant in Mexico.

Its main business is supplying cash drawers and related components to other companies who integrate them into the customized point-of-sale systems that are common today in retail stores, replacing traditional cash registers.
