Mildred Earls

WINCHESTER BAY - A private family gathering will be held for Mildred M. "Millie" Earls of Winchester Bay, who died Dec. 24 of age-related causes. She was 81.

Earls was born on Dec. 22, 1922, in Emmons County, N.D., to Fred and Grace Whalen Westbrook. As a young woman, she married Clyde Yarbrough, who died in 1971. The couple lived in Winchester Bay, where he owned a charter boat named the Charmil, for her and their daughter, Charlotte. She worked in the ticket office of the charter company for many years.

In later years, she married Fred Earls of Winchester Bay, who also preceded her in death.

She enjoyed working in her yard and visiting with family and friends. She was a member of the ladies' auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, No. 2595 in Reedsport.

Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte Manfull of Reedsport; three stepsons: Bob Earls of The Dalles, Kenneth Earls of Winchester Bay and Bill Earls; three sisters: Hazel Sutton of Upper Lake, Calif., Shirley Dockter of Pollock, S.D., and Evelyn Steinbach of Spearfish, S.D.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A grandson, Jeff Hodges, died previously.

Dunes Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Wright

SPRINGFIELD - Robert H. Wright, a lifelong resident of the Eugene-Springfield area, died Dec. 24 of heart failure. He was 79.

He was born on Jan. 10, 1924, in Peace River, Canada, to Homer and Birdie Harslain Wright.

He attended Cedar Flats Elementary school and served for two years in the U.S. Army as a medic, from 1942 to 1944. He pulled green chain for Oregon Cedar. His hobbies included working on old cars and spending time at McKenzie Auto. He was a member of the Antique Auto Club.

Survivors include a brother, Don of Springfield, and a sister, Deana Abernathy of Veneta.

No services will be held. Burial will be at Springfield Memorial Gardens. Major Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
