A recent report says Lane County schools and local governments would lose more than $40 million in state funding if voters reject an income tax surcharge in February.

Area school districts would take the biggest hit, giving up about $30 million for K-12 education. The University of Oregon would lose $3 million and Lane Community College $900,000.

Human services would lose an additional $6 million to $8 million, according to the Lane Council of Governments report.

How individual districts and departments deal with the lost revenue remains to be seen. Jamon Kent, the LCOG program manager who drafted the report, said the information is meant to be used as a starting point for discussions about the tax measure and program priorities.
