EL PASO, Texas - Bill Moos brought two pairs of cowboy boots to Texas, where boots are to footwear what Birkenstocks are to the Saturday Market, and Sunday the Oregon director of athletics added to his collection.

To go with the pair he obtained when Oregon played in the Cotton Bowl after the 1995 season, and the pair he picked up here during Oregon's Sun Bowl visit in 1999, Moos purchased a pair of ostrich-skin boots in a rich, dark color with a hint of cherry.

For an aficionado of cowboy boots - Moos has about a dozen pairs - the new additions amount to formal attire, suitable for wearing with a business suit.

That he could spend Sunday boot-shopping before a bowl game in a literal sense, rather than pacing the halls in a gloomy Cas Center in a figurative sense, is due to the turnaround in the UO...
