I try hard not to go to Wal-Mart. The crowds. The long lines. Regardless, I sometimes venture in, always through the garden section, sneaking in, hoping I can make a quick trip of it.

I'm always wrong.

Before Thanksgiving, my husband and I headed to our local Wal-Mart. Upon entering the garden section, "Christmas!!!" screamed from every shelf.

We found ourselves transfixed by a singing and dancing Santa with a large repertoire of holiday tunes. Within minutes, those tunes were stuck in our heads, and we hummed and sang our way through the hardware section.

It was Sunday afternoon, and we only needed a few items--shaving cream, toothpaste, a can of paint. While I've never found a quiet time to go to Wal-Mart,...
