Meat Retailer Editor Bryan Salvage recently caught up Hugh Dorminy, president of the National Pork Board and president of Cargill Pork, a business unit of Cargill Inc., for an interview on pork industry issues. The 15-member National Pork Board is an independent body established under provisions outlined by Congress in the Pork Promotion, Research, and Consumer Information Act of 1985. The Board is responsible for the collection, distribution, and program accountability for the pork checkoff in the areas of promotion, research, and consumer information. Under the checkoff, U.S. pork producers and importers pay 40 cents per $100 of value when hogs are sold and when hogs or pork products are brought into the United States.
