Consumers seeking small indulgences in the face of the waning economy are contributing to strong beef demand, relays the National Cattleman's Beef Association. "Beef really owns that enjoyment positioning--consumers love the flavor and as a treat buy steaks or high-quality burgers," says Carl Blackwell, executive director of product marketing for Denver-based NCBA.

NCBA manages the "Beef. It's What's For Dinner" beef check-off marketing campaign. This year's installment is designed to fuel consumer passion for beef and encourages beef meal consumption via print, radio, and TV advertising. A recent poll found that about 87 percent of consumers recognize the 2003 series of "Beef. It's What's For Dinner" ads.
