The future of a new convention center in the city of Troy will be known in less than a month when Troy voters decide whether to sell 7 acres of city-owned land for the project.

If voters approve the sale April 5, the convention center would be built by 2008 and join the Novi Expo Center as the second such venue in Oakland County.

The Troy City Council has defined parameters for the project: a 200,000-square-foot conference center with 125,000 to 150,000 square feet preferred; a 500-room hotel with 350 rooms preferred; 6,000 square feet of retail; and three full-service restaurants.

In addition to the 7 acres, the 11-acre site includes 4 acres owned by the Troy Employees Retirement Fund.
