Article Excerpt With the elections behind them and a new crop of elected officials coming onboard, construction association managers are hoping to see more work done in 2004, such as finishing sweeping tort reform legislation, in the 120-day session.
"Tort reform is, of course, our number one interest," said Perry Nations, executive director of the Associated General Contractors of Mississippi (AGC). "I think it is with everybody. We're going to push for all eight of the Mississippians for Economic Progress issues, but I think caps are probably the most important. We don't even like to call it tort reform. We call it balancing fairness with responsibility."

"We'll be lobbying for the state to expand its education building program," said Nations. "We're sorely in need of a statewide construction program, where we can inventory and maintain all the state buildings."
