HATTIESBURG -- David Armstrong may surprise you.

As president of Hub Consulting, he often walks into law firms as a potential new client to assess customer service skills. If the receptionist asks how he heard about the firm, he gives them points. If the lawyers are friendly and seem sincerely interested in his situation, the law firm gets double points.

By the time his assessment is completed, Armstrong can pinpoint weaknesses in the law firm's marketing program and develop strategic marketing ideas and service products for its attorneys.

"As a new customer, I should be treated as a precious commodity because we are in a consumer-driven age," said Armstrong, "and yet somehow, many attorneys haven't come to that realization."

In September, Armstrong opened Hattiesburg-based Hub Consulting to help attorneys better market themselves and their services.
