Kathy Gruzynski continued her blazing start to the girls basketball season by scoring a career-high 34 points with 10 rebounds to lead Conant to a 52-48 victory Saturday over Wheeling in the final day of the Waubonsie Valley tourney.

A 6-foot-2 junior center, Gruzynski has 91 points in the Cougars' last three games and is averaging 23 for the season.

Senior guard Katie Rizzo, whose 2 free throws with one second left capped the scoring, finished with 12 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists for the Cougars (4-1).

Sophomore Lindsay Lewis (15 points) and freshman Taylor Lawless (13) led Wheeling (1-5).
