As Don Markowski steps into his new role as chief of the Addison Fire Protection District, the safety of residents lies in the hands of a man who is no stranger to the job.

Even before he joined Addison as deputy chief in 2008, Markowski already had served four years as chief of the Glenside Fire Protection District in Glendale Heights. In all, he served more than 27 years with that district.
