The Eugene Emeralds baseball team and its landlord at Civic Stadium for the past 40 years may not end their relationship on a winning note.

The Eugene School District is asking the Emeralds to either make or pay for $34,025 worth of repairs at the 71-year-old ballpark. The Ems will leave the stadium on Nov. 25 and move to the University of Oregon's PK Park to begin play there next June.

School district officials asked the Emeralds in July to make the repairs on a wide range of items, such as reinstalling bracing under bleachers, replacing corroded metal beams underneath seats, reattaching a stadium wall, fixing defective gutters, patching roof leaks and bringing electrical and plumbing fixtures up to code.

District officials repeated the request in August, but the Ems did not reply to either demand, said 4J architect Larry Massey.

Ems President and General Manager Bob Beban said he is unsure of how he will respond to the district's latest request, which he received by letter last week. But the ballclub shouldn't have to pay for the work, he said.
