Have you ever tried your hand at podcasting? It may sound quite different from anything else you have done, but once you get past the fear of the microphone, it begins to feel a lot like how we tend to communicate best: in normal conversations, without scripts, teleprompters and style guides.

"Podcasting is like blogging out loud! It gives you a voice," says one of the earliest handbooks, Podcasting for Dummies. As simple as this sounds, it points to the often-missed connection between two powerful outlets of expression today. There are many podcast formats available, from highly produced shows to ad-hoc rambles to journalistic reports and lectures converted to MP3 formats. So what style and format does a communicator pick to "blog out loud" in a world cluttered by corporatized communication?
