Energy and Mining Minister al-Zubeir Ahmad al-Hassan on Oct. 25 confirmed that the country's crude oil output in 2008/09 has fallen to 470,000 b/d, below estimates of 500,000 b/d. He said plans to build a new 100,000 b/d refinery at Port Sudan had been shelved "indefinitely". Instead, the government intends to double the capacity of the 100,000 b/d Khartoum refinery.
